Wingate University during his 50th class reunion in October 2009. Twenty
years ago this month, he received the Distinguished Alumni Award from
Appalachian [October 1989]. In 2001, Dr. Latta was inducted into the
Reich College of Education’s Rhododendron Society.

Stephanie (Routh) Clark (1998)
Stephanie (Routh) Clark (1998) recently accepted a position at Hill, Chesson & Woody, an employee benefits firm located in Chapel Hill, NC as the Marketing & Sales Coordinator.

A 12-year marketing veteran, Stephanie brings a wide range of skills to the HCW marketing team, including automated campaign management, event coordination, lead/contact management, and collateral production. She will assist with all aspects of HCW’s sales and marketing activities and events, as well as coordination of the firm’s business development opportunities.

Stephanie came to HCW from the Healthcare business of Thomson Reuters in RTP, where she successfully executed several product marketing and brand awareness initiatives as an Associate Marketing Manager. Prior to her work at Thomson Reuters, Stephanie served as Marketing Coordinator for three local emergency department management groups: Phoenix Physicians, Sterling Healthcare, and PhyAmerica Physician Services. A graduate of Appalachian State University's Communications & Advertising program, she also spent a few years as a Graphic Designer with Thunder Mtn in Banner Elk.

Louise (Buchanan) Hembree (1964)
was honored at a retirement gala at Mayland Community College on August 26, 2009. She retired effective August 31 with 43 years devoted to education. The last 38 years were spent as Director of the Learning Lab and later Dean of Adult Literacy at Mayland Community College.
Louise started the Learning Lab and GED program at Mayland when the college opened in 1971 and grew the program into one of the most effective in the state.
Classes were offered at 12 locations in the three county area. The program employed over 40 people, and served about 1200 students each year.
Louise is active in her church and community and will no doubt find some other work to which she can devote her talents and energy.
An endowment is being established in Louise's honor to award scholarships to deserving MCC GED graduates who are continuing their education at Mayland.

After graduating law school and passing the North Carolina State Bar Exam, Sarah Robinson (2005) recently joined Wishart, Norris, Henninger & Pittman in Charlotte, NC. She will be practicing law in the area of residential real estate.

Mark J. Smith (1997, 2004) recently accepted a position at The University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy located in Albuquerque, NM, as Operations Specialist. He supports classroom and Web-based educational technologies in a professional college in a RU/VH Research University, while continuing to write his PhD Dissertation in Organizational Learning and Instructional Technology (OLIT).

Fred Robinette (1966) writes, "Fred T. Robinette '66, '67, '70 has served for the last 5 years as Vice President of Development for Rainbow Center-Children and Family Services, a 21 year old (501c3) non-profit organization, headquartered in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. Robinette is responsible for all fundraising, public relations, and marketing for Rainbow Center. Rainbow Center serves at-risk children and youth from throughout northwestern North Carolina."

"Matt previously held the position of Provisioning Reports Manager for the last three years and has been employed by SouthEast Telephone since 2004.
