Missouri State University remembers Mr. John Q. Hammons
The Missouri State University faculty, staff and students, past and present, join the Springfield community in mourning the loss of Mr. John Q. Hammons, who passed away on Memorial Day 2013 at age 94. Since the mid-1970s, Mr. Hammons, a Missouri State alumnus, was instrumental in investing in Missouri State University's growth and development. Read more
Missouri State awards 2,404 degrees during spring commencement
Missouri State University conferred 2,404 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies May 17 at JQH Arena. A total of 1,829 bachelor's degrees, 528 master's degrees, eight specialist degrees and 39 doctorate degrees was conferred. Check out the new commencement hub that features student stories, social media posts, photos and other multimedia experiences. Read more
University pursues fundraising, volunteer efforts for Moore, Okla., disaster recovery
The Missouri State University community is planning several projects to benefit the Moore, Okla., community. The Baker Bookstore is selling Bear Hugs for Oklahoma t-shirts to raise money for disaster assistance. The shirts are available in the store or online for $15 each, and $9 from each shirt will be donated to Convoy of Hope. Wise Guys Printing designed and donated the shirts. Read more
Mountain Grove Picnic
Alumni and friends living in Douglas, Texas and Wright counties are invited to a family-fun picnic on Thursday, June 6, 6-8 p.m. at the Missouri State University Campus Pavilion in Mountain Grove. Would you like to meet President Clif Smart, Athletics Director Kyle Moats and Head Basketball Coaches Paul Lusk and Kellie Harper? These University representatives will be on-hand to give updates and answer questions. Guests will enjoy a picnic dinner, receive a Missouri State memento and door prizes will be awarded. Cost is $5 per person and registration is requested.
MarooNation in Cincinnati
Do you live in the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area? Then make plans to connect with fellow Bears at Maggiano's Little Italy, 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 6. Dr. Gloria Galanes, Dean of the College of Arts and Letters, will host the evening and provide a University update. Guests will enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres and door prizes will be awarded. Registration is requested.

Missouri State Night at Kauffman Stadium is scheduled for June 21 at 7:10 p.m. when the Royals challenge the White Sox! 30th Annual Missouri State Night in Lebanon
Alumni and friends in Lebanon are invited to Missouri State Night on Monday, June 24 at the Cowan Civic Center at 6 p.m. Celebrating thirty years of alumni involvement, the evening includes a complimentary dinner and the opportunity to meet University President Clif Smart, coaches and representatives. A silent auction benefitting the Lebanon Alumni Scholarship fund will offer athletics tickets, BearWear and more. Additionally, golfers are invited to an afternoon tournament that also benefits the scholarship fund. Registration is requested.
Family Day at Saint Louis Zoo a hit
Missouri State Family Day at Saint Louis Zoo took place on Sunday, May 19. Action began early with the 28th Annual Make Tracks for the Zoo 5K Walk/Run and Kid's races. Missouri State University was an official sponsor, so Boomer, Cheerleaders and Sugar Bears lined the race path to encourage runners and walkers. Throughout the day, many Missouri State alumni and their families visited the MarooNation Bear Booth to spin the prize wheel and win fabulous Missouri State t-shirts, caps, bears and more! Student receives national civic honor
Debra Horn, a junior at Missouri State University, was recently named a 2013 Newman Civic Fellow by Campus Compact. The Newman Civic Fellow award honors students across the nation committed to creating lasting change in their communities. Read more
Alumna returns to Missouri State as vice president for student affairs
Dr. Denita (Dee) Siscoe was named vice president for student affairs at Missouri State University. Siscoe, currently interim vice president for student affairs at the University of South Florida, will begin July 22. Siscoe replaces Dr. Earle Doman, who retired May 1 after 24 years at Missouri State, the past five as vice president. Siscoe will oversee enrollment management, student life, dean of student's office, student academic support services, Taylor Health and Wellness Center and the university bookstore. Read more
Chemistry foundation at Missouri State prepares student for Harvard
Julien Duxin credits the chemistry department at Missouri State for setting the pace for a promising, academic career. From Missouri State, he took off to two widely respected biochemistry programs: Washington University and Harvard Medical School. Read more
Board recognizes faculty, staff and student accomplishments
The Missouri State University Board of Governors awarded its new Staff and Faculty Excellence in Public Affairs awards to five faculty and staff who excel at carrying out the public affairs mission. Faculty and staff included Juan Meraz, Wes Pratt, Dr. Robert Pavlowsky, Dr. Tim Knapp and Dr. David Hays. The Board also recognized three biology students, Michelle Williams, Katie Schmelsel and Katelyn Barlett for recent accomplishments during its May 17 meeting. Read more
Tent Theatre lineup features heartwarming classics
The department of theatre and dance at Missouri State University celebrates its 51st season of Tent Theatre with a summer lineup featuring two classic musicals and one comedy-drama. On June 12-15 and 17-22, lonely hearts are as parched as the Texas dustbowl in the musical "110 in the Shade." And six Southern belles share happiness and heartbreak at a small-town beauty salon in the comedy-drama "Steel Magnolias," June 27-29 and July 1-6. Then a diehard baseball fan makes a deal with the devil to win the pennant for his beloved home team in the musical comedy "Damn Yankees," July 11-13 and 15-21. Read more
ESM Technologies joins Jordan Valley Innovation Center as new corporate affiliate member
ESM Technologies along with joint venture partner Stratum Nutrition have become the newest corporate affiliate members of the Jordan Valley Innovation Center (JVIC) located in Springfield, Missouri. "We are pleased to have ESM Technologies join our list of partners," stated Allen Kunkel, associate vice president for economic development and director of JVIC. "ESM brings a different set of opportunities for JVIC, and their ties to the region and state are tremendous." Read more

Six former faculty, staff selected for 2013 Wall of Fame induction
Representing more than 148 years of combined full time service to Missouri State University, six former faculty and staff members have been selected as the 2013 Wall of Fame inductees. Approved during the Board of Governors meeting on May 16, the 2013 Wall of Fame Class includes: the late Dr. Alice Fleetwood Bartee, Dr. William "Bill" Cheek, Clinton "Clint" Copeland, Fred Marty, Gregory P. "Greg" Onstot and the late Guy Thompson. Read more
Evansville bounces Bears from MVC Championship with 4-2 decision
Evansville scored four unanswered runs to overcome an early deficit and hand Missouri State a season-ending 4-2 setback on May 23 at the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championship at Duffy Bass Field. MSU fell victim to a shutdown pitching performance for the second day in a row, as Purples Aces starter Josh Biggs limited the Bears to a pair of first-inning runs over eight innings to earn the victory. MSU Track & Field concludes NCAA West Regional competition
The Missouri State track and field squad put a bow on its 2013 season after five MSU student-athletes competed at the NCAA West Regional on Saturday, May 25. Kimsue Grant (Sr., Arlington, Va.) and Robiann Broomfield (Fr., Clarendon, Jamaica) placed 25th and 27th in the triple jump, respectively. Read more
Matheny named MVC Freshman of the Year as seven Bears tabbed for all-conference honors
Headlined by Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year Tate Matheny and First-Team All-MVC selections Eric Cheray and Nick Petree, a total of six Missouri State baseball players were selected for all-conference honors Monday by the league's head coaches. Matheny and fellow MSU outfielder Keenen Maddox were chosen for the Valley's second team, while senior shortstop Travis McComack, senior reliever Erik Shannahan and senior catcher Luke Voit picked up honorable mention recognition. Jones, Pierce land MVC softball Scholar-Athlete team recognition
Missouri State softball pitcher Chelsea Jones and senior first baseman Stevie Pierce were recognized as Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete honorable mention team selections, the league office announced Monday. Read more
