Fundraising efforts, practices recognized
with national award
For the third time in five years, Missouri State University has won national recognition for its fundraising success, winning the 2013 Sustained Excellence in Educational Fundraising Award from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Of the nearly 1,000 colleges and universities considered, only 68 higher education institutions won an award. Read more
Business students win AT&T campus marketing challenge Denver area alumni gathering
Students at Missouri State University are sharing a $1,000 scholarship as winners of the first AT&T Campus Marketing Challenge, a program that gave them the opportunity to create and implement a research and marketing campaign for a leading global company. Missouri State University’s Ad Team, a student-run advertising agency, won the contest for their “inTEXTicated” campaign, which blended events, social media, advertising and public relations to teach students about the effects of texting while driving. A casual MarooNation gathering for alumni and friends living in the greater Denver area will be held on Saturday, July 20, 5-8 p.m. at the home of alumnus, Rob MaCoy, '90. Guests will have the opportunity to visit with University representatives, meet old friends, make new connections and win door prizes! Registration is requested.
MarooNation Night in Bolivar
Do you live in the Bolivar, Missouri area? Then make plans to join President Clif Smart for a MarooNation gathering on Thursday, July 25, 6-8 p.m. at Citizens Memorial Hospital. Alumni and friends will enjoy a buffet dinner, hear a University update from President Smart, and Art Hains, Voice of the Bears, will preview Bears athletics programs for the 2013-14 year. Cost is $5 per person. Registration is requested.
Missouri State Night at Busch Stadium a grand slam
On Saturday, June 1, nearly 800 alumni, students and friends spent the evening at Busch Stadium. Missouri State Pride Band members and Spirit Squad members entertained and welcomed guests to Busch Stadium with great MarooNation enthusiasm. Prior to the Cardinals baseball game, attendees met Missouri State administrators and coaches, and enjoyed a pre-game ballpark buffet. Exclusively designed t-shirts were included with the ticket package. Before the Cardinals took the field, President Clif Smart, accompanied by Boomer, threw a first pitch! View photos from the event.
MarooNation gathering set for Gobblers Roost Family Weekend set for September 27-29!
Alumni and friends in the Nevada, Missouri area are invited to join fellow Bears for a fun evening on Tuesday, July 30, 6-8 p.m. at Gobblers Roost Restaurant. Guests will hear President Clif Smart’s University update, and Voice of the Bears Art Hains’ preview of Bears athletics programs for 2013-14. Cost is $5 per person and registration is requested. Registration is requested.

Passion for chemistry leads to involvement at Missouri State
Chances are if you are in Temple Hall you might run into Eric Tague, a graduate student and teaching assistant in the department of chemistry. Tague began his fascination with chemistry in high school after learning about moles (a unit of measurement) and unit tracking. Tague followed his passion to Missouri State and was accepted into the accelerated master’s chemistry program. Read more.
MSU to establish International Leadership and Training Center
Missouri State University plans to deliver international leadership and professional development training by establishing the Missouri State University International Leadership and Training Center (ILTC). The ILTC mission is to provide high quality non-credit language training coupled with international leadership and professional development programs customized to meet the needs of client organizations. The mission is consistent with the university’s public affairs mission, particularly the focus on cultural competence, ethical leadership and community engagement. Read more.
Consolidation of classes to save university thousands
As students and faculty return to Missouri State University for summer classes, they may notice that some of their classes are in unexpected locations. As part of a larger effort to decrease the university’s energy footprint, four buildings on campus will be completely or largely vacant during evening hours and weekends. In the first stage of the university’s effort of scheduling space for energy efficiency, the university expects to save $6,500 and 79 metric tons of CO2 this summer. Read more.
Missouri State Night at Kauffman Stadium a hit
More than 350 Missouri State University alumni, students and friends gathered for an evening of Royals baseball and fun at Kauffman Stadium on Friday, June 21. Attendees enjoyed a pre-game barbecue tailgate, received a customized Missouri State/Royals t-shirt, and had the opportunity to meet Missouri State coaches and administrators. MSU-College Bound Access Scholarship announced
St. Louis-area students with financial need will have a chance to attend Missouri State University, thanks to a new scholarship program developed by Missouri State and College Bound St. Louis. Beginning in the fall 2013, MSU-College Bound Access Scholarships will be awarded to qualified students. The scholarships will be in the amount of either $2,500 or $1,500 and can be renewed for up to four years. After students begin college, they receive a broad safety net of human and financial resources. The goal of College Bound is to ensure that students who are admitted to college, graduate from college, and can go on to enjoy the full benefits of living in a community and contributing to a vital and educated workforce. Universities sign agreement to improve diversity education
Missouri State University and the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) signed an agreement on June 17 to examine ways to provide meaningful opportunities for underrepresented populations and increased education on and exposure to diversity and inclusion matters for faculty, staff and students. Love of natural places leads to a promising career
Gopala Borchelt's path to Missouri State began when she listened to a presentation on geospatial information systems (GIS) and mapping. Soon after, she was volunteering with the Army Corps of Engineers at Table Rock Lake, working with GIS. Read more.
School of Anesthesia inaugural class
On June 14, members of the inaugural class of the Missouri State University School of Anesthesia graduated. (Previous classes graduated from the St. Johns School of Anesthesia at Missouri State.) Program director Dr. Monika Feeney, DNAP, MS, CRNA, received the inaugural Excellence in Service Alumni Award in recognition of her dedication, perseverance, service and leadership. Dr. Feeney worked tirelessly to ensure that the School stayed open, locating clinical sites for students, and gaining approval for the program to be fully affiliated with Missouri State. Additionally, Feeney received an Award of Appreciation in honor of her hard work.
HRA alumni gathering in St. Louis
Hospitality and Restaurant Administration (HRA) alumni are invited to join fellow St. Louis HRA alumni on July 22, 2013 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Llywelyn’s Pub, 1732 South 9th Street in Soulard. Catch up with old friends and make new connections. HRA faculty will be there to give you the latest updates on the department and Missouri State University. First annual Missouri State Bear Triathlon
Missouri State Triathlon Club and Foster Recreation Center are co-hosting the first annual Missouri State Bear Triathlon on Sunday, September 8, 2013. Perfect for a novice or veteran, the race is comprised of a 200 yard swim, an eight mile bike course and a three and one-half mile run. Following a mandatory race briefing at 6:45 a.m., racers begin the course at Hammons Student Center pool at 7 a.m. Registration is available at the front desk of Foster Recreation Center. Proceeds from this event will be given to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
Auction Benefiting Athletics
The Auction Benefiting Athletics is back and will take place on Friday, August 9 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Springfield Expo Center. Tickets are just $25 and are available by calling 417-836-4143.

Petree adds ABCA/Rawlings All-America, Gold Glove citations to 2013 Honor Roll
Former Missouri State pitcher Nick Petree added yet another honor to his resume Tuesday, when the St. Louis farmhand was named the top defensive Division I pitcher while earning American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-America honors for the second straight year. Read more.
