Missouri State drops defensive battle to No. 13 UCA

A stout defensive effort and a standout passing performance by Wynrick Smothers lifted No. 13 Central Arkansas to a 17-13 victory over Missouri State the evening of October 22 at Plaster Field. Smothers threw for a pair of first-half touchdowns to give the visiting Bears (2-2) the lead, and the UCA defense held MSU scoreless over the final 39 minutes of the game to seal the outcome.

Missouri State wraps up its two-game home stand Saturday Sept. 28 when it hosts Illinois State in the Missouri Valley Football Conference opener for both teams. Tickets to the 1:05 p.m. game are available online, by calling (417) 836-7678 or by stopping by the Chevy Pickup Window at JQH Arena during regular box office hours.

Women's Tennis Program Will Return to Missouri State University

Work will soon begin to bring a women's tennis team back to Missouri State University beginning with the 2014-15 academic year. It would become the 11th women's sport and 17th sport overall at Missouri State.

The addition of women's tennis was recommended by special task force called by President Clifton Smart III earlier this year to ensure the University's long-term compliance with Federal Title IX regulations. During its four months of work, the task force identified tennis, sand volleyball, lacrosse and bowling as potential expansion sports to fit the University's needs at the NCAA Division I level. Other sports could be added in the future.
